Review of the 118th SCA Annual General Meeting in St. Anton am Arlberg

  • On the 8th of September 2018, the Annual General Meeting of the Ski Club Arlberg was held in the Arlbergsaal in St. Anton am Arlberg. Club members from near and far took the opportunity to attend.

Spirits were high when the members of the Ski Club Arlberg met for the 118th Annual General Meeting on the 8th of September 2018. The past club year 2017 - 2018 was a great success, not just from the perspective of President Josef Chodakowsky. The president spoke with great pride about the above average achievements of the SCA athletes in all areas of the club. One of the highlights of last season was when Nina Ortlieb won the overall rankings in the European Cup. This victory allows the young racer from Lech to compete in all disciplines of the World Cup in the coming winter season 2018 - 2019.
In the context of the AGM, President Josef Chodakowsky once again took the opportunity to thank all those people and organisations whose support fundamentally contributes to the success of the Ski Club Arlberg. They include the local councils, tourism offices, cable car companies and ski schools, as well as the SCA’s highly dedicated team of trainers and all the club’s volunteers. Once again in 2017 - 2018, co-operation with the state ski associations was excellent.

    A look at the agenda
As usual, a quorum was established and the agenda was announced. The agenda included reports from the president, the treasurer and the club’s branch representatives, as well as the presentation of awards. The Ski Club Arlberg was once again able to record a positive financial balance in 2017 - 18, much to the joy of all involved. The auditor’s report confirmed the orderly management of the club’s finances, and thus approval was given for the treasurer and the entire SCA Managing Committee.
Under Item 6 of the agenda, changes to the Ski Club Arlberg’s by-laws were agreed upon. Furthermore, there was a unanimous decision to establish a limited liability company. This company will be responsible for future operation of the SCA shops. The Managing Committee of the Ski Club Arlberg proposed the motion that annual membership fees for adults be raised from 50 to 60 euros. This motion was also accepted unanimously by the members attending the Annual General Meeting. The membership contribution for children will not be increased and remains at 20 euros.
Afterwards the president thanked all members for their financial support and payment of fees, and thanked sponsors for their generous donations.

    A strong sense of solidarity
The strong sense of solidarity within the Ski Club Arlberg is noticeable at all levels. Members often remain true to the club for many years. This loyalty is also rewarded. At this year’s AGM, Helmut Falch was presented with the Golden Arlenzweig, the highest award given to athletes by the Ski Club Arlberg. The award was presented in the presence of all the guests and the honorary members, Adi Werner, Toni Mathies, Ernst Kössler, Gustl Hafele and Reinhart Westreicher. Further, Laura Strolz was awarded the Achievement Badge in Silver for athletes.
Three of the club’s branch representatives addressed the Annual General Meeting – Peter Mall from St. Anton, Patrick Ortlieb from Lech and Anton Dönz from Stuben am Arlberg. All three gave reports about the past club year and were full of praise for their trainers and athletes.
It is particularly pleasing to everyone that last year almost 700 new members joined the Ski Club Arlberg at the more than 100 SCA Stammtisch meetings.

    Support from all directions
The mayor of St. Anton am Arlberg, Helmut Mall, assured the Ski Club Arlberg
that it can continue to rely on the support of the local councils in the future. The representative of the Vorarlberg Ski Association, Walter Hlebayna, wished the club good luck and emphasised the importance of working with young people. Dr. Michael Huber, President of the Kitzbühel Ski Club, recalled the story of the Arlberg Kandahar Race and emphasised the co-operation between the two clubs. Towards the end of the meeting, the athletes, Andreas Mathis and Magnus Walch, took the opportunity presented by the AGM to send a video message thanking the Ski Club Arlberg for its great support. According to President Josef Chodakowsky "it is important that we continue to go our own way and foster solidarity and team spirit". The aim is to continue to hold large events at the Arlberg.
