119th Annual General Meeting

On 7 September 2019, the annual general meeting of the Ski Club Arlberg was held at the Rud Alpe in Lech am Arlberg. Around 130 members from near and far attended the evening of celebrations.

In the autumnal temperatures, members of the Ski Club Arlberg gathered on 7th September 2019 for the 119th general assembly. President JosefChodakowsky reported with pride on the past year at the club and theexceptional successes achieved by the SCA athletes across all areas. Hestressed that the founding of the Ski Club Arlberg GmbH marked an
important step for the future and discussed the regional thinking on theArlberg which needs to be enhanced further. The President also provided insight into the steps planned for the future: working groups are being used to devise a ‘Strategy 2030’ and the first results should be presented at the next general assembly in September 2020.

One special highlight of the past season was Magdalena Egger from Lech who attended the Youth Olympics in Sarajevo and secured two golds and one silver medal. The President also informed the assembly of the ending of the careers of Lorraine Huber and Linus Walch and wished them all the best for the future. In August 2019, the Ski Club
Arlberg also said goodbye to Olympic and World champion and honorary member Egon Zimmermann who passed away at the age of 80. As in every year, President Josef Chodakowsky also took the opportunity to thank everyone who has made a significant contribution to the success of the Ski Club Arlberg through their dedication. This includes the
communities, tourist boards, mountain railways and ski schools as well as the dedicated team of trainers from the SCA and all the voluntary helpers. Collaboration with the state associations was also excellent again in 2018/19.

A glance at the agenda
As each year, quorum was established and the agenda read. The agenda featured the report of the President and treasurer, reports from the resorts and the awarding of the badges of honour. The Ski Club Arlberg was pleased to report another positive balance for 2018/19. A checking of the cash register also revealed no grounds for complaint and so the chief cashier and entire SCA Executive Board were ratified. Then the President thanked all members, sponsors and generous donors for their financial support.

A strong team spirit
The strong ties within the Ski Club Arlberg are evident across all levels. Many have been loyal members of the club for a number of years. And this loyalty is rewarded. In the presence of all guests and honorary members, badges of honour were presented for 35, 40, 50 and 60 years of membership along with the supporter badges in green, silver and gold.
The SCA Chairs for the resorts, Patrick Ortlieb from Lech, Philipp Zangerl from Zürs, Anton Dönz from Stuben and Wilma Himmelfreundpointner as representative for Peter Pall from St. Anton am Arlberg, also spoke at the general assembly: they all spoke about the past year at the club and the excellent performances by the athletes and thanked the trainers
and all the voluntary helpers. Everyone was particularly pleased that last year, around 600 new members joined the Ski Club Arlberg as part of over 100 SCA Regulars’ Meetings.

Support from all directions
The Mayor of the community of Lech am Arlberg, Ludwig Muxel, also paid tribute to the deceased Olympic and World champion Egon Zimmermann and honoured his commitment to the Ski Club Arlberg and the community of Lech. He also congratulated all honoured guests, thanked them for the excellent collaboration and secured support for the Ski Club Arlberg in the future too through the communities. The newly elected President of the Vorarlberg Ski Association, Walter Hlebayna, passed on his greetings and congratulations and referred to
the support for youth work. Werner Margreiter, President of the Tyrol Ski Association, added her congratulations and emphasised the status of the Ski Club Arlberg
throughout the world. The representatives of the Austrian Ski Federation, Herbert Mandl and Christian Scherer, passed on greetings from President Peter
Schröcksnadel. “Further developing the sense of togetherness on the Arlberg has been and always will be a core issue because this is an important point for positive ongoing development,” said President Josef Chodakowsky.

The 119th general meeting came to an end with three cries of ‘Ski Heil!’ (happy skiing!)
