20th Anniversary of the FIS Alpine Ski World Championships in St. Anton am Arlberg

Exactly 20 years ago, on the 28th of January 2001, the ceremonial opening of the 36th FIS Alpine Ski World Championships took place in the Karl Schranz Stadium in St. Anton am Arlberg.

More than 350,000 spectators came to watch the over 200 athletes from 60 nations compete in the exciting races.

652 reporters, 381 photographers, 46 TV stations and 40 radio stations sent news and images of this ski festival around the world.

Leading up to the event, some 254 million euros were invested in infrastructure to prepare for the World Championships.

St. Anton am Arlberg was the proud host of this large-scale event and is keen to apply to hold the World Championships again in 2035.
