Der Weisse Ring – The Race

The iconic skiing competition Der Weisse Ring (“The White Ring”) in Lech Zürs enjoys cult status all around the world. This all-comers event offers about 1,000 ambitious ski enthusiasts an appropriate setting to compete in a race that is widely known to fascinate its spectators alongside the piste and in the finish area. Participants need to overcome 5 runs, 5 ski lifts, 22 diverse kilometres of pistes and a vertical drop of 5,500 metres. The race starts at the Rüfikopf, from where groups of twenty skiers are released every 100 seconds to conquer the course which takes them via Schüttbodenlift, Trittalp and Madloch around the Omeshorn to Zug. From there, the chairlift carries the ski racers up to the Balmgrat, from where the final segment of the competition proceeds down to Lech.
